Roberto Bruno Obituary

Roberto Bruno was born on January 8, 1942 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to Francisca Vencebi and Anastacio Bruno. Being one of five children, Roberto and his siblings were raised by his mother in Puerto Rico. Born into poverty and life struggles all of the siblings took odd jobs to make ends meet. Through these struggles they were still happy as a family.

Roberto's siblings were Jacinto Bruno, Sara Bruno, Rosa Bruno and Maria Lozada Bruno.

Roberto moved from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to Philadelphia, PA in 1959 when he was just 17 years old. Although Roberto did not have the means to continue his education, he found other ways to earn a living.  He was a self-taught carpenter, electrician and plumber. He always got through any obstacle in a “MacGyver” kind of way.

At the age of 24, Roberto met his one true love, Edith Delgado. Their 58 year marriage began on April 16, 1966. Out of the matrimonial union came his daughters, Agnes Bruno Santiago and Lissette Bruno.

Roberto and Edith at first worked in different factory jobs making such things as yarn, men’s suits, candy, and baseball cards. Earning roughly a mere $1.25 an hour they were able to provide a home for their two daughters and save for several businesses. They had partnered with his brother Jacinto Bruno and sister in-law Maritza Santana de Bruno to open a neighborhood store. After a few years, Roberto and Edith got into the restaurant business at 5th & Glenwood Avenue in Philadelphia.

Roberto was lovingly known for his strong character, but he was also very happy and always joking around to make people laugh in the neighborhood. Roberto loved to sing Ranchera songs loudly and dancing around. He also used to make silly character impersonations to make us laugh.

Roberto, as a longtime Phillies fanatic, probably knew every baseball stat known to man. He truly loved baseball until the end.

Eventually Roberto retired. During his retirement, his daughters married and contributed to growing the family tree. Agnes Bruno Santiago married Elliott Vidal Santiago and Lissette Bruno married Hector Torres. From which these two unions came five loving grandchildren named Roberto Angelo Santiago, Gracey Lee Guzman, Jade Vidal Santiago, Gabriel Santiago and Arianna Elanis Torres.

Roberto was known as a good humanitarian. He always lent a hand to anyone that needed help and was always willing to go above and beyond for his family.

He was a great son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will surely be missed. Roberto, you will be in our heart’s para siempre.
