Julia Aponte

Julia Aponte, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Philadelphia, PA after a long battle of Alzheimer.

Julia was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on July 21st and came to Philadelphia in the 1950's with her husband, Ricardo, at the age of 20. She was a loving mother who dedicated her life to raising her 7 children in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia for over 48 years. She was a dedicated and impeccable homemaker, a community babysitter. A woman devoted of her Catholic faith. She was a loyal member of St. Peter's Church & National Shrine of Saint John Neumann in Philadelphia, PA, where her children attended elementary school. She often volunteered at the school and church. She was a Eucharist Minister, Choir Member, President & V.P., Secretary, Treasurer of the Legion of Mary, board member of the Legion Mary Philadelphia Senatus and a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus representing St. Peter's Church & Parish for over 25 years.

In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, cooking, entertaining and spending time with friends & family and especially quality time with all her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was perfectly loved by all and a blessing!"

She was the loving wife of the late Ricardo Aponte; beloved mother to the late Wilberto Aponte (Carmin Aponte), Rafael Aponte (the late Elizabeth Aponte), John Aponte, William Aponte (Sol Aponte), Rita Mejias, Sonia Gerena (Richard Gerena) and Ricardo Aponte II; the late Rufino Ramos (the late Ethel Ramos) and her brother Benito Ramos (Lydia Roldan); and precious grandmother to 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. 

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations to help fight Alzheimer's be sent in her honor to continue the important work in providing Alzheimer's care and support and accelerating research for a cure one day. Please send donations in her honor to the following:
