Georgina was born on April 11th, 1941, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. Georgina was the youngest of 11 children born to Ricarda Mendez and Maximino Acevedo. She is the last of her siblings to pass away. In 1959 at 17 years of age she married Serafin Crespo, and together they emigrated to the United States. They eventually spent most of their lives in the Philadelphia area.
They lived and raised three children and while doing so were the proprietors of a local grocery store in North Philadelphia. They worked seven days a week and Georgina somehow found time to get her General Equivalent Diploma (GED). She loved to cook and do arts and crafts, especially sewing and crocheting. In her 60s she was very involved in helping to raise her grandchildren. She was also very active in the Mann Older Senior Center where she was president of the Center for many years. She enjoyed being active in community affairs and politics. She was a vibrant woman who loved to laugh and spend time with those she loved. She is survived by her husband Serafin Crespo, her three children Gloria Crespo, Rosalia Rivera, and Javier Crespo, her grandchildren Joel Crespo, Jasmin Viera, Karina Crespo, Christopher Rivera, Gabriella Langan, Stephen Langan, Breanna Crespo, and David Crespo, and her great grandchildren Aubrey Viera, Sebastian Santiago, Lukas Viera, Kelianys Santiago, Adelina Viera, and Nialaj Crespo.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Mann Older Adult Center.
