Angelica Arocho Obituary

Angelica Arocho Perez (Gelita), was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, on October 1st, 1926, to parents Juan and Agustina Arocho.  She departed this life at the age of 97, on Sunday, January 21st, 2024, after receiving the sacrament of Last Rites. She is preceded in death by her parents, her only and loving sister, Carmen, her husband, Cruz, her daughter Diana, and grandson Andrew.  Angelica was married for 62 years to Cruz Rodriguez Serrano living many years in Brooklyn, N.Y., Humacao, Puerto Rico y then Philadelphia.  She leaves behind 5 children and their spouses: Nancy (Dennis), Marilyn, Edgar, Ivette (Jeff), and Mary Ann (Ahmed), 8 grandchildren: Molly (Justin), Ashley (Emmanuel), Jessica (Morrison), Kristen (Jon), Monica, Cenit (Alfonso), Casey and Christopher and 6 great-grandchildren: Israel, Zion, Joy, Navid, Hannah and Grayson. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, and other family members.

Angelica was a loving wife and mother to her family and devotedly committed to her Catholicism. Both she and Cruz participated as counselors in Marriage Encounters, Ministers of the Word in the various catholic churches they belonged to from New York, Puerto Rico and then Philadelphia. Anyone who knew our mother, knows that she was always praying the rosary, attending or watching mass in Spanish. She was an exemplary mother, feeling and suffering the achievements and challenges of her children, giving advice and support whenever she could. As the matriarch of the family, she enjoyed bringing the family together on Thanksgiving, gathering everyone and cooking for her family for many years.  The family would travel each year from different parts of the U.S. to reunite and share milestones.  For her, this day was very special and made her very happy.

On behalf of our family, we would like to thank those who loved her or demonstrated their love for her with their calls and visits during her illness. We know that she is resting in peace, and in heaven alongside her parents, her sister Carmen (Tata), her husband Cruz, her daughter Diana and grandson Andrew. Her life to us was a blessing, she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

On behalf of our mother, a final message to all; in the words of Mother Theresa:

“In this life, not all of us can achieve big things but we can all do small things with great love.”

Ella deja 5 hijos e 3 hijos políticos: Nancy (Dennis), Marilyn, Edgar, Ivette (Jeff), Mary Ann (Ahmed), ocho nietos: Molly (Justin), Ashley (Emmanuel), Jessica (Morrison), Kristen (Jon), Mónica, Cenit (Alfonso), Casey, Christopher, y 6 biznietos: Israel, Zion, Joy,  Navid, Hannah y Grayson.
