Adelfo L. Jala “Adel” passed away on September 8th, 2023, at the age of 78. At the hour of his passing, he was surrounded by his family and loved ones. Adelfo was born in the Philippines on August 29th, 1945, to his late loving parents, Fortunata and Vicente Jala. He was the oldest of 4 siblings. Adelfo studied electrical engineering and graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology. Adelfo married Ligaya Gutierrez on May 14th, 1972. After 9 years they moved with their children to Zambia, Africa, where they lived and worked for 4 years. They immigrated to the United States in 1984 and moved to Philadelphia where they raised their two children. In addition to working as an electrical engineer for over 45 years providing for his family, Adelfo’s hobbies included carpentry work, gardening, listening to music and doing projects around the house. Adel’s favorite pastime was going to the casino with Ligaya and buying “scratch off” tickets.
Beloved husband to Ligaya Jala, of 51 years; Devoted father of Robert Jala (Bambie), and Adelie Hagy (Richard); Adoring Grandfather “Lolo” to Angelina “Lina", Anna, Ethan, Robert “RJ”, Emily, Evan and Abigail “Abby”; Dear Brother of Paterna “Babie”, Vicente “Boy” (Nila), Juanita “Janet” (Mario); Supportive uncle to Nelvy (Sen-Sen), Raymond (Anabelin), Genevieve (Arvin), Myra (GV), Marvin and Joyce. He is also survived by many cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. Adelfo will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 15th, 2023, at Holy Innocents Catholic
Church at 1337 E. Hunting Park Ave, Philadelphia, PA, 19124. Private Viewing for family from 9am-10am. Open Viewing from 10am-12pm. Requiem mass will follow directly after viewing at 12pm. Adelfo will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery, at Adams Ave and Ramona Ave in Philadelphia, PA, 19124. A Repass will be held at Randi’s Restaurant and Bar at 1619 Grant Ave. Philadelphia, PA, 19115 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sarcoma research through the American Cancer Society.
